COLLEGE ROAD RACE.
ST. JOHN'S ANNUAL EVENT. WINNER MAKES FASTEST TIME. Twenty-five students took part in the annual road race of St. John's College yesterday afternoon over a distance of about SJ miles. The scratch man. Owen, a winner in the 1920 contest, had to concede handicaps up to five minutes, and the two nien on the limit. Sussess and Soloman. had three-quart era of a mile down the St. Helier's Bay road before Owen starred. The course turned off the St. Helier's Road down the concrete strip leadlus to Panmure, and the route was then along I'ilkington Road and turned for the homo run up the hill near the Presbyterian Church. Williams (4.1 .">) was the first to overhaul the limit men and he took the lc:'<l after about a mile, followed hv Reed (3.0) and held it for another mile. He was then overhauled by Toy and Cast'e. and the latter soon afterwards opened up a break and the only nair threatening him then were Holmes and Owen. Castle, however, continued strongly and won easily by about 100 yards. Holmes just failing to overtake Toy in a dash for second nlaee. Owen finished fourth, fo'lowed by Williams and ReeVl. The winner. Castle, also secured fastest time, beating Owen by two seconds for that honour. The result was:—W. I. Castle (1.0). 1: R. W. Toy (2.301. 2; P. E. Holmes (1.15). ■} : T.. Owen Cscr). 4.
