REFEREE STANDS FIRM. MAORIS DEFEAT NORTHLAND. Although North Auckland lost its halfback, McDonald, in the first two minutes of the game against the New Zealand Maori touring side at Dargaville yesterday, and Mourin was sent to hospital ten minutes before the interval, the Northlanders led at half-time by eight points to 6.
According to arrangement between the managers, North Auckland took two fresh players on to the field when the game resinned, but the referee, Mr. N. Robinson, stood firm and refused to allow play to proceed until the reserves went off again, although he had previously permitted the teams to retire at the interval. With a stiff breeze to face in the second spell and with only 13 men. North Auckland was in difficulties for the remainder of the game, the Maoris adding six tries (two converted) and winning by 28 points to 8. For the Maoris tries were scored bv Dowr.es (4). Jackson (2), Tibbie and Smith. Potaka converted two. For North Auckland, Mackey scored a try and Kerr kicked a penalty and converted Mackey's try.
