WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

BOMBAY. The president, Mrs. J. B. McKinney, presided at the last meeting, when visitors were present from Waihi and Whatawhata. Miss Lewis, honorary organiser, gave a demonstration of glove-making, and also gave a demonstration of papier niache work. An instructive address on home nursing was given by Miss Polden, a former matron of Thames Hospital. The competition for puff pastry, judged by Mrs. Massey, was won by Mrs. Masefield, with Mrs. Ware second. The hostesses were Mesdames H. Carter, James, King and Masefield. MAMARANUI. A meeting of the Mamaranui Women's Institute was held at the Store Hall on July 27, when Mrs. Newlove presided. A competition was won by Mrs. Bremner, with Mrs. Baldwin and Miss Duckers second. Several parcel* of spare clothing were brought by members, and were dispatched to the Mayor's relief by the secretary. Mrs. Newlove's competition was won by Mesdames Bremner and Groome. For next month's meeting it was decided that members make articles from one yard of cretonne for competition on the thrift table. Prizes will also be given for the two best vases of flowers, one of six blooms and the other mixed flowers. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Newlove and Bremner.

HOWICK. | Mrs. A. Cherry presided last Wednesday, when instructions were given in the making of moccasins and sugar bag articles. A competition in home-made marmalade was judged by Mrs. W. Green, and the highest marks were obtained by Mesdames Kyd, Wyatt and Osborne. The tea hostesses were Mesdames Mason, Johnson, A. Jones and Mies Wann. OMAN A. At the last meeting members decided to send a small parcel of butter t-» a sister institute in North England. The president reported nine members having had a most enjoyable time at an open afternoon in Dargaville held on July 20; also that a social organised by the local institute had proved successful both socially and financially. A portion of the funds was forwarded to the Victoria League. After an interval for lunch, tho slipper competition was judged, Mrs. H. Keene being the winner with a beautifully made pair of slippers. Mrs. Ballantyne gave a demonstration on papier mache.
