OUT OF CONTROL
STOLE SISTER'S FURNITURE. GIRL SENT TO BORSTAL. , Arrested at Opotiki on a charge of stealing' furniture and bedding valued at £50, belonging to Fay Cooper, on June 11, 1931, Violet Cooper, aged 17, appeared at the Police Court this morning. She pleaded guilty. Detective Sergeant Kelly eaid the furniture belonged to accused's sister, and during the owner's absence from her flat, accused sold the whole of the furniture and effects to an auctioneer. An English dirt track rider was arrested for the theft a considerable time ago, but he explained that he had merely helped accused to, remove ,the furniture. Accused owed him £10, 'and she sold the furniture in order to pay him. "This girl isj morally, a little loose," added Mr. Kelly. Major Annie Gordon, probation officer, recommended that in the girl's own interests she should be sent to the Borstal: She was completely out of control. "Her recent history suggests that this course is desirable," remarked the magistrate, in sending Cooper to the Borstal for .two years
