MATAMATA HORSES.

R. J. MATEER'S TEAM.

VALROE AND LADY LULU. R. Mateer ib putting a few sharp Sprints into Valroe and Lady Lulu, with a view to spring racing. Both are bearing a bright appearance, but it has not been decided whether the Pakuranga or Avondale meetings will be the first starts in the new season. Galapago, the aged half-brother to Valkon, trained by N. Harper at Matamata, has been qualified in the hunting field and will be nominated for steeplechase events at the Pakuranga meeting. This Spalpeen—Glacier gelding is a splendid jumper, but there is a suspicion about his soundness. If he can be given the necessary work from now on he should have a chance in the Hunters' Steeplechase. Merry Lap is also to be nominated for the Hunt meeting. The full-brother to Gay Lap has furnished nicely and gives the appearance of being every inch a racehorse. He has had some short sprints and has given satisfaction. Merry Lap's only ; other start was at the Taumarunui meeting. Sweet Colleen, dam of Lord Val, last . week lost a foal by Speardance. . i R. Martin is giving Val Reo, a four- : year-old gelding by General Latour—Glen- i val, pace work. He is a promising sort, i but it will probably be summer time before the best is seen of him. DOUBLE TOTALISATOR. RESOLUTION BY DUNEDIN CLUB, i DUNEDIN, this day. ] The Dunedin Jockey Club has passed a j resolution that representations be made , to the Government to permit the double totalisator being used, and bets being telegraphed to the course.
