NEW BOAT HARBOUR.

CONSTRUCTION AT ONEHUNGA

AREA OF TWENTY ACRES.

MAKING A BOULDER WALL.

Slowly, very slowly, a boulder wall is growing out, from the western shore of the Manukau Harbour, near the township of Onehunga. When completed the wall, which is being constructed by relief workers, will form the boat harbour that yachtsmen and launch owners on the Manukau have long been looking forward to. The wall is ■> being constructed in a southerly direction from the end of the drainage outfall tank. It will be 300 ft in length and will be high enough for the top to be two feet above water at high spring tide. It is understood-that at a later date the Auckland Harbour Board will further.extend the walL The area which will'eventually be converted to a snug anchorage for small' craft is one of approximately 20 acres. Tie wall is being constructed from boulders which are plentiful along the foreshore. A start in collecting the stone was made three months ago, but the actual construction of the wall has been in progress for only a couple of weeks. It is anticipated that it wiJl be another three or four months before the 300-foot wall has been completed. A rough set of rails has been laid down, and the boulders are transported to the wall by tip trucks. Work can be carried out only .between low and half tide. At .this time of the year the job of building the wall is a cold one, and some of the 40-odd men engaged on the job have expressed the opinion that it would be to the advantage of everyone if it could be-carried out in the summer months. Often, they say, they are working in mud and slush,*and it would be a. bpon if gumboots were supplied. boots, they say, will not keep ?^«? e -T et - Some of the men engaged
