Rennie, the well-known crosscountry rider, returned to Hamilton last week after attending the Victoria Grand National meeting, at Flemington, where he rode JMake Up and Landmark in the hurdles and steeples respectively. They failed to run prominently, he stated, having trained off since they left Now Zealand just after the Great Northern meeting. They were further handicapped by the brief interval between the time of their arrival and the races. If they were in form Rennie considered • that _ they would have good prospects of winning races on the other side. Copey and Captain's Gift, other New Zealand horses racing at the same meeting, failed to ehow up, and this was due'to the fact that they were not taken over early enough. Prospects generally for racing in Victoria were favourable, and he may return there, later in the year. ' If Luminary is taken to Ricoarton, Rennie will pilot liim in the Grand National Hurdle Race. . .
