BANKRUPT DALMATIAN.

GROCERY BUSINESS LOSSES. MARRIED OWNER OF RESTAURANT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. The bankrupt estate of George Mihaljevich was investigated by the Official Assignee, Mr. A. L. Tresidder. The schedule showed liabilities amounting to £388 C/ 10 and aesets £4 15/. In addition there is an unknown interest in the family estate at Igrane, Dalmatia. In his statement bankrupt said he came to New Zealand 22 years ago and went gum-digging at Mangawhare. Having saved some money, he bought a boardinghouse in Auckland, but sold out, ar.d in 1924 took over a grocery shop in Dominion Road. He lost heavily, however, and early in 1025 closed the business and again went gum-digging. He came to Whangarei three years ago and married the owner of a restaurant. All his debts were old ones, and he had paid off some of them, amounting to £01 15/. The assignee asked bankrupt whether he knew the extent of the family interest in Dalmatia, but bankrupt said he did not, as he had not heard from his family since before the war. He admitted he had gambled, but not for five or six yoare. He said he was a kitchenman at the restaurant, and working for his keep. He had a phyeical disability which prevented him from seeking work with his countrymen. The inquiry was adjourned and the bankrupt promised to write to his people to find out the extent of his interest in the family estate.
