STRAND THEATRE.

Constance Bennett's latest production, "Lady With a Past," is having such a successful season at the Strand that it has been decided by the management to retain the film for a further -week. In this picture the popular actress, who can wear clothes better than any Paris model, is seen in a role where she is required to create a "past" in order to attract the opposite sex in her particular circle of society. She leaves her native New York for the more glamorous Paris, where she finds adventures coming too quickly for comfort. However, she achieves her aim, only to find that it is as ashes in her mouth. She is supported by Albert Conti, Don Alvarado, Ben Lyon and David Manners—all favourite screen actors. NATIONAL THEATRE. The current comedy attraction at the National, "The Honour of the Family," serves as the latest screen vehicle for Bebe Daniels, last seen in a combined heroine-villainess role in "The Maltese Falcon." In this picture the illustrious Bebe is cast as the type of woman for whose favours men have fought to the death through the ages. She is a nobleman's daughter in a country where lineage means everything, and in the approved fashion is listed off to wed a wealthy and unattractive old aristocrat. Then comes a fairy tale romance, where dashing young Warren Williams comes and fights a few deadly duels, creates untold laughs, and eventually carries off the not-at-all-unwilling damsel. GYMKHANA AT ELLERSLIE. Unemployed in Ellerslie will benefit considerably as the result of a gymkhana held in the parish hall last evening. The well-known wrestler, George Walker, refcrecd at exhibition contests, and demonstrations of jiu-jitsu and gymnastics were given by a party of Technical College students under Mr. Leeves. GIRLS' GRAMMAR CONCERT. The Auckland Girls' Grammar School pupils will hold their annual concert in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Friday and Saturday.
