POPULAR PAINTING COMPETITION
HIDDEN NAMES PROVE HARD TO FIND
SCREEN STAR PUZZLE FOR NEXT WEEK
Dear Boys and Girls, — There are some boys and girls who are never so happy as when they have a paintbrush in their hands, and to these the competition conducted in the Budget a fortnight ago particularly appealed. Entries were fairly heavy, and, generally speaking, the standard of the work was good. The names hidden in the dresses of the children were difficult to find but they undoubtedly provided additional amusement for the competitors particularly for those who are not very skilful as artists. Dick, Mary, Nancy and Fanny were the names which were so hard to find. The competition was judged entirely on the standard of the colouring, the names not being taken into consideration. Norma Strange was placed first on the list of prize winners Her picture was tastefully coloured and considerable effort had been made to model the figures with light and shade in order to make them stand out Irom the background. The second prize went to Iris Pearson, whose one (rouble was that her painting was too dull. An original touch was added by providing a border of flower designs. There was little to judge between Hie other prize-winning entries, placings being decided by the staff artist upon more or less minor points. The names of popular movie stars are familiar to all readers, so to-day s competition should be fairly easy for boys and girls to solve. The names of several screen actors and actresses have been taken and the letters jumbled up, the task of competi- S9\ tors being to supply the original names. jH/ *** Sec the competition announcement else- /^^jfl^jSjr* ll whore on this page for full particulars, and—a word of warning—do not forget r to enclose your riddle. *tl^^
