WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

BROWN'S BAY. A meeting of the institute was held in the cabaret on June 2. Mrs. Loader, vice-president, occupied the chair. A competition entitled "A Game of Tennis" was held. Miss Walker and Mrs. Allen drawing equal honours. Mrs. Bailey gave an address. The hostesses wore Mrs. Gardner and Miss Collings. MERCURY BAY. At the June meeting of the Women's Institute at Mercury Bay there were 46 members present. After a discussion it was resolved to support any scheme for beautifying the township. Much interest was shown in the demonstrations of thrift work. Two recitations by Mrs. Brophy were given. The hostesses for the afternoon were the Misses McCabe, Munro, IT. and L. White. WAITAKARURTJ. At the monthly meeting Mrs. Irwin gave an address, and Miss W. Henderson a violin solo and Mrs. C. Hayward a song. Mrs. Lang contributed a recitation. The winners of the flag five hundred were: Mesdames H. Dalgety, L. Bates, G. Paton and J. Godkin. Mrs. A. Coxhead won a competition. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Millington, Mitchell, Hayward and Hand. WARKWORTH. The May meeting was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, when Mrs. Colville, president, was in the chair. Mrs. Colville read a report of the bi-annual conference. Mrs. H. B. Moorse gave a demonstration on rofooting stockings and other useful hints. Mrs. Brown was responsible for the social parts of the programme and a game which caused great fun was enjoyed by all. A supper was then served, the hostesses being Mesdames Tutt, Robertson, and Stevenson. ORATIA. The annual meeting was held this week. Mrs. Speedy gave a report of the bi-annual conference and thrift table exhibits. Mrs. Olsen gave gramophone selections. A play was read by the Mioses Trethewy, Theet and Johnson. Miss Shaw sang. Tho president, Mrs. Potter, presented to Miss Theet and Miss Firth the prizes won by them for exhibits during the year. Members were entertained to afternoon tea by the outgoing committee. TE ATATU. The Te Atatu branch held a meeting on June 2, Mrs. Tickle presiding. The resignation of the secretary, Miss Hopper, was received with regret, and Mrs. Chadwick was appointed. A report from the bi-annual conference was given by Mrs. Gill and Mrs. Pijacun. A silver vase was won by the branch for thrift at tho recent exhibition. Miss Hopper was appointed a delegate to the Wellington conference. A demonstration on slipper and moccasin making was given by Mrs. Tickle and Mrs. Miller. Tho hostesses for the afternoon were Me-sdames Gill, Buckley and Gustaffeen.
