CABINET'S ATTITUDE.

'EARNEST CONSIDERATION."

NO HOSTILITY SHOWN. MR. FORBES AM) DEPUTATION. (By Telegraph.—-Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHUECH, this day. "No hostility was shown to the deputation'which waited on members of the Cabinet last week in regard to the position of unemployed youths," said the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, when bis attention was drawn last night to a statement made in Auckland, that the deputation bad had a hostile reception.

"The subject raised by the deputation is one which is now receiving the .cry earnest consideration of the Government," added Mr. Forbes. The only thing to which he did take exception•--an attitude which was also taken up by other Ministers of the Crown present— was the charge that he had broken his bond. What members of the deputation were referring to was the signing of a document, in common with representatives of the other leading Govern incuts of the world, declaring that the ultimate goal to be aimed at was the good of til* child. That had nothing to do with unemployed youths. Mr. Forbes said he had pointed out to the deputation that New Zealand had done more for the welfare of children than any other country which had signed the document. What was more, the Government was still doing so and would continue to do so.

The question whether the Government should accept responsibility for all unemployed boys was put forward, said Mr. Forbes, and it was shown that this was impossible, but it was a matter of great moment, and the Government was giving the whole question its very earnest consideration.

"The Cabinet members present did resent what they fell to be unfair criticism of what they are trying to do in this direction, especially as they arc trying to meet a difficult situation," said Mr. Forbes, "and they felt, that a little more consideration should be shown them in their task."
