MILK-SELLING "WAR."
TACTICS IN CHRISTCHURCH.
TRUCK FOUNT* IN RIVER. MANAGER'S ALLEGATIONS: (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. A milk delivery truck, the property of the Coupon Company, v. as found in the Heathcote River a'-. Opawa this morning. The allegation has been made that it was pushed there while the deliveryman's back was turned. Some . damage was done to the truck, and- several crates of empty bottles i were missing.
It is claimed that damage to the truck was due to a milk "war" which is at present being -waged in the city. The manager of the company stated that about a month ago another truck belonging to the company was pushed into the river, that some of the company's employees had been threatened with violence, that bottles, both full and empty, had been stolen from customers' doorsteps, and that other attempts were being made to drive customers away from the company. The price "war" is said to be due to the action of some farmers, who have started to retail their own milk at low prices in order to get a better return than from selling it to retailers. It is believed that a movn is being made to form a marketing association, in order to stabilise milk prices.
