MINE TRAGEDY.
INQUEST ON TWO MEN OPENS. (By Telegraph.—Fress Association.) WESTPORT, Monday. An inquest was opened at this afternoon in connection with tragedy at the Millerton mine on baturdav, in which Messrs. William Lowden and Joseph Edward Pfeffer lost thei lives by gas poisoning. Evidence of identification was gi by Thomas Benjamin Holmes 31 Charles Collins, and the inquest was adjourned sine die. j Deceased, who were undergTOunQ managers, were gassed behind a *top|''"c in a fire area ill the mine. Mr. went in first, and was gassed, and " ' Pfeffer. who went to his rescue, sufleita a similar fate'. Later gas masks were obtained and the bodies of both Uiea were recovered.
