NO SHORTAGE OF FUEL.

STEAMER TO GO TO NEWCASTLE

Supplies of household coal in Auckland are in some danger of running low as a result of the coal strike, and one prominent firm is now refusing orders made, by other than regular customers. No great concern is felt, however, as stocks of other fuel are high. "Our supplies of coal arc gradually becoming depleted, and wo have been obliged to give preference to our regular customers," said one dealer. "However, we still have a little in reserve, he Another dealer said that the supply of coal was low, but that there was an abundance or other fuel. The supply of coal held by his particular firm had been made low by extra orders from outside dealers. "As far as shipping is concerned, there is as yet no apparent shortage of coal," said a man who is interested in. both the shipping and coal businesses. The Karepo is due to arrive at Auckland from Westport with coal to-morrow and will discharge at Chelsea. Later i she will return to the West Coast to '•■ load another cargo for this port. The Kaimiro, which is due on Wednesday from Greymouth, is expected to sail for Australia after discharge. It has been arranged that she will load a full cargo of coal at Newcastle for Wellington. The movements of the Karepo are somewhat uncertain, but it is expected that she will remain in the West Coaat-Auckland trade as long as coal is available. The Westport Coal Co.'s steamer Canopus, which arrived this morning, brought 1000 tons of coal. This will be divided among the Railway Department, the Auckland Gas Company, and local dealers.
