NO WINTER MEETING AT AWAPUNI.
The New Zealand Racing . Conference ] has been officially advised' by the- Mana-; watu Racing Club that a decision has been 1 made not to hold a winter meeting at Awapuni this year. The dates were July 30 and August 1. In coming to this decision, the club has without doubt acted according to its financial position and prospects of the success o£ the fixture, but it is a serious matter for owners and trainers. In view of t'he Manawatu cancellation, the Amberley, Hororata and Christchurch Hunt Clubs, which have been granted a license for a combined meeting on July 23, may reconsider the date and hold it on July 30. If they did this, and also put on a steeplechase and hurdle race, they could be assured of considerable support from the North Islanders -who intend to patronise the Grand National meeting. The Christchurch Hunt Club's meeting, prior to the Manawatu Club coming in on their date, tf'ways held an enjoyable and instructive : atioiia! rehearsal, whigh wjis weil'.'p'ati oii;:;ea by tiic -Northerners.
