WOMEN'S JOB. The primary object of women, said Mr. W. J. Lyon in a lecture on "Tlie Psychological Complex of Women" at the Penwomen's Club on Friday afternoon, was motherhood. Whereas the little boy had an inquiring mind, the little girl's first instinct was to mother her dolls and deck herself out in pretty ribbons. Mr. Lyon held that the principal job of the average woman was to ■ attract the opposite sex for the purpose of reproducing their kind. Women, he said, were the natural complement of man. Man by himself was useless and incapable and required feminine influence in creating his own individuality. It was woman who supplied the driving force. It was possible that many women should have better brains than their menfolk, but it was a tragedy when by their cleverness they made their husbands realise their inferiority. It was the natural order that women should only act as a complement, and if an attempt was made to reverse it, the order of the home would be sacrificed. The speaker referred to a number of the famous women in history who, only by sacrificing their womanhood and developing .characteristics , in the male, had achieved results. Home life, he said, meant mateship between man and women, and if the unity of man and women were disii tegrated the home would be sacrificed. If women became dominant, chivalry would go by the board, and o:ice this happened women were going to lose, and the effect of their dominance would have devastating results on socictv.

FOR SLIM ANKLES. The simplest exercises will help you to attain lovely ankles. One is to stand on tip-too, and then gradually and with out tiring yourself, to walk across the room two or three timea while still on tip-toe. This will strengthen the ankles so that they are not likely to get easily tired and swollen when it is necessary to walk or stand about for long at a stretch. Another exercise is to hold on to a bar or the end of a bed, and swing the legs to and fro alternately. Massage is, of course good for slimming and shaping the ankles. Another excellent idea is to splash the> legs, and feet with very cold water immediately after the bath. This tones up the circulation and also improves the skin tremendously.
