THE FLOWER GARDEN. The planting season for evergreen and deciduous trees is now here. Do net plant when soil is inclined to get pasty. Shrubs do not play as great a part in our gardens as they should, especially some of the newer introductions of Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Berbcris, and others. Shrubs that are getting too large should be cut back or taken out altogether. Try and fill the position with a variety that will fit. It is lamentable the mistakes that have been made in planting varieties that are out of piacc. Sowing ar.d p'antin™ of seedlings are best held up for a few weeks, cxccpt they are of the hardiest. Where the seedlings must he handled transplant into boxes or make up a nurrery "bed in a sheltered position. Cut bacl: Chrysanthemum stems, collect and burn all rubbish, clear all weeds away from iho base to allow the suckers every chance. Chrysanthemum cuttings can be taken. Choose short-jointed, firm cuttings. Fail, .suckers should have the tops cut off and thrown away. These will send out late cuttings. Cutting 3of shrubs anef trees can be inserted. Choose half ripened wood and plant firmly. The rock garden should have a general overhaul. Many of the plants w.ll need trimming back, and most v/ill require topdressing. Some of those with woolly foliage will be better with a pane of glass over them to throw off excessive wet. THE VEGETABLE GARDEN. Put seed Potatoes in boxes to sprout. Look over Potatoes and ether vegetables tn store. Remove any that show signs of decay. Dig over any vacant plots. Trenching is a fine exercise before the morning porridge. Hoe between growing crops. If very weedy dig over lightly, burying the weeds. Weed autumn sown Onions. Stir the soil clo3e to the plants. Spinach sown early should have the soil stirred around the plants. A sowing of early Peas can be made. A warm, well-drained soil is required. Use a dwarf early variety. A sowing of Broad Beans can be made. Prepare the ground for a planting of early potatoes. Commence pruning fruit trees as soon as possible. Spraying can be done immediately after pruning.
