BOY'S UNUSUAL DECEIT.
A 13-year-old boy was stated at Saltash (Devon) to have defrauded clergymen by telling them that he hncl placed a halfcrown in the collection in mistake for a penny. One clergyman returned 2/6, tolling the boy to put 2d in the plate the following Sunday. A second gave him 2/5. The lad told them that the money belonged to an old woman who was destitute. When the magistrates ordered the boy to be sent to an industrial Bchool the mother exclaimed: "It will break my heart. He is an officer's son and a gentleman's son."
