SAIL PLANS FOR MODEL YACHTS.

A young correspondent seeks information about a sail plan for his two models. His first 'boat is 20in overall by sin 'beam. A suitable sail for this model, provided that she is a fairly good shape, would be a Bermuda rig with a mast 24in above the deck. The -mainsail should ''be 13% in on the foot with 22in hoist. The jib can be 6in on the foot and 14in hoist. The mast can be stepped about 7in from the stem.

The second model is 26in overall with 7%in •beam. The imast for this model should be 36in above the deck; mainsail 19in on the foot and 33in hoist. The jib should be Tin on the foot and 18in hoist. Step the mast BViiin from the stem. A light boom on the foot of the jib is a help, and don't forget to give an inch or moi'e clearance above the deck for the boom, also give the boom a fairly good lift aft to prevent it dragging in the water when the model heels over. Make the boom for mainsail about one in-ch longer than the sail's measurement and allow lin to l%in clear at the .masthead, which should be neatly tapered and a tiny flag added. Before cutting the sails draw a full-size plan on paper. "Speedwell" will answer any further queries as required. Sorry to learn that racing has declined on Orakei I Basin, and hope that it will revive next season. As you say, the chief factor is ;i supply of dinghies to follow the models.
