STEAMER HUNTINGDON.
SURVEY REVEALS DAMAGE. FAIRLY. EXTENSIVE FORWARD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. A survey of the Huntingdon, which arrived on Saturday from London in a leaking condition, commenced to-day. No official statement of the damage is available at present, although the damage appears to be fairly extensive forward. The bottom of the ship lias been buckled upward or inward for from 20ft to 30ft, and the hull is inches clear of tho keel blocks in the dock, instead of resting on them. This setting up of the plates is continued for a short way up the sides of tho ship, more particularly on the starboard side, where many of the rivets have been sprung or loosened.
Water is still trickling out of the ship aft on the port side. Many plates are badly buckled and several continuous streams of water indicate that here the damage also ie fairly severe.
It is not yet known how long tho Huntington will remain in dock, as it will depend whether temporary or permanent repairs are effected in Wellington.
