CHILE "RED."

JUNTA IN CHARGE.

SOCIALIST REPUBLIC. Foreign Currency Deposits Seized. CENTRAL BANK TAKEN OVER. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 1 p.m.) SANTIAGO (Chile), June 9. The new Socialist junta to-day ordered all deposits in foreign currency in the various banks to be turned over to the Government. The banks have been instructed to give the depositors pesos at the legal rate in exchange. The Government began to put its socialist policies into operation. The Central Bank, created in 1920, was taken over and the board of directors dismissed. The junta will name the new board which will operate the bank along lines similar to the Central Bank.

The provincial authorities have been directed to suspend taxes on properties whose owners have not enough money to pay. School teachers have been informed that the important part of their work henceforth will be to direct education toward Socialism in order to form a public conscience which will support the new Socialist Republic.
