Archbishop Averill left Auckland for Wellington la<st night. Mi\ Taitc Te Tomo, M.P. for Southern Maori, arrived In Auckland from Frankton this morning. Dr. and Mrs. E. B. Gunson were passengers for the South by the Limited express last night. Sir William Hunt arrived by the (Limited from Wellington this morning and is at the Grand Hotel. Dr. W. H. Unwin, of Timaru, left Wellington yesterday for London, where he will be New Zealand representative at the British Medical Association's centenary celebrations. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates and Mr*. Coates attended the wedding of Mis.* Moira Carrington, daughter of the Hon. C. J. Carrington. M.L.C., in Auckland yesterday, and left for the South last night. The Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Education, who left for Waihi this morning and opened a school there, will join the Limited express at Frankton this evening for Wellington. Dr. J. H. Wood, formerly of the staff of the Auckland (Hospital, and a son of file Rev. J. J. North, of the Baptist Oollege, ha.s secured his fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons, London. Mr. N. G. Gribble, secretary of the New Zealand Land Settlement' and Development League, left for Wellington last night to take part in the deputation to the Government in connection with the boy unemployment problem.

Mr. C. S. Plank, deputy-chief engineer, has been promoted to succeed Mr. A. Gibbs as chief telegraph engineer of the Post and Telegraph Department, who has retired after 40 years' service. Mr. Plank is an associate member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers. He joined the service in 1892.
