MOORING OF SHIPS.
Could you tell me what is the reason for the iron discs on the mooring ropes of overseas vessels, and when did the regulation, regarding them come into force, and oblige. CURIOUS. [The discs were made compulsory to prevent rats coming ashore along the mooring lines. The occasion was an outbreak of plague in Sydney more than twenty years ago.—Ed.]
