A VEXED QUESTION

LEAVING FIELD AT INTERVAL. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCIIURCH, this day. Once again the vexatious question of players leaving the field at- half-time came up for discussion at a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Kugby Union. "It is absolutely absurd," said Mr. J. Iv. Moloney. Friday's club games gave a typical example. Every player was granted permission individually to leave the field, and all went off, otherwise they would have had to stay on the field with wet jerseys in a biting wind." " 1 know one boy who is in bed now with a bad chill," said Mr. H. E. Davis. " Pneumonia is suspected, and hie doctor is of tlig opinion that staying on the field at half-time is responsible." Mr. 11. W. Britten: The game is for the players, and we must look after their interests. Detters were received from four clubs protesting against the rule, and it was decided to write to the New Zealand Union asking for copies of all correspondonce relating to the enforcement of the rule.

Apparently the governing body intends to see that the rule is enforced. At its latest, meeting it was reported that Petone and Poneke had left the field at half-time at Athletic Park on June 3. It was stated that, this was in direct conflict with the ruling laid down, and a sub-committee was appointed to confer with the Wellington Union.

KILBY NEW ZEALAND SKIPPER,

ALL BLACKS PLAY WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union this evening appointed J' 1 . Kilby (Wellington) captain of the New Zealand team to tour Australia. E. R. G. Steele (Hawkc's Bay) was appointed vice-captain. Arrangements for a. special match at Athlctic Park on Wednesday. June 15. between Wellington and the New Zealand fifteen, were made. Tt was decided that Wellington men in the All Black team should not be eligible to play for Wellington. The committee decided that the All Blacks should assemble in Wellington next Tuesday. On the motion of Mr. A. C. Kitto it was decided that in cases where medical examination was considered to be necessary it should be carried out on the day of the arrival of the team in AVellington.
