A mooting of the gardening circle of . the Lyceum Club was hold in the club j rooms on Wednesday morning m reference to the circle's activities during the coming Women's Efficiency Fair to be held in the Town Hall next month. Mrs. Tattersfleltl, convener, presided over a ; large attendance. ' Prior to their departure for Canada on Tuesday, Mise Partridge and Miss Eileen Partridge bade farewell to a number of ( their friends at a luncheon held in the, Lyceum Club yesterday. The guests were received in the lounge, which ooked charming with autumn flowers, and on the table in the dining room were bowls of Josephines. Among those present were: Mesdamee W. J. Napier, ST. Ramsay, Allen, Fred Wileon, 11. H. Partridge, Mioses G. Partridge, Patrick and M. Keilson. The social committee of the Otahulm Ladies' Golf Club held a progressive bridge party at the clubhouse on Tuesday afternoon. The rooms were beautifully decorated with autumn flowers. Mrs. A. G. Grinter and Mrs. R. Wallace received the guests, assisted by Mesdames Pollard, G. Kendall and Misses M. Clark, B. Wyllie and L. Hunter.. Mrs. D. Stacey won the hidden number, while Mrs. Wily secured the highest score. During the afternoon elocutionary items were given by Miss L. Hunter. *** • ♦ Mre. Eustace Gray, of Maungakiekie Avenue, One Tree Hill, entertained a number of guests at her home yesterday. Iceland poppies and jars of daphne graced the various rooms. Bridge prize winners were: Mrs. J. Harrison and Mrs. T. Cropper. The hostess wore parchment shaded satin, with skunk fur trimmings. Among those present were: Mcedanies S. Eddowee, J. Grey, J. Harrison, A. Gribbcn, Haekett, K. Campbell, Claret, R. Harrison, Young, Stratton, R. Reid, K. Hall, A. Watkins and Croppy . The Association of Men of Kent and Kentish Men held a social in the Fabian Club rooms on Tuesday last, over 100 members and friends being present. After some opening remarks by the president, Mr. A. J. Leonard, eonge were rendered by Miss May Saunderson, Miss May Carter and Mr. Jack Bree, each artist being enthusiastically encored. This was followed by a eeriee of interesting moving pictures taken during Mr. Walter Impett'e recent tour of England and the Continent. Magnificent views of many places, including London, Canterbury and the Rhine, from Cologne to Mainz, were shown. Mr. Impett, who was assisted by Mr. Ewart Carr-Smith, briefly commented on the various points of interest. , # « A pleasant informal little function took place on Monday at the Catholic League rooms, when Mrs. Sutherland was" entertained at an afternoon tea party by the members of the house committee and the sewing circle prior to her coming departure to make her home in Suva The president, Mrs. J. J. O Buen, expressed on behalf of the members their regrets and good wishes, and spoke I appreciatively of the record of fine service rendered by Mrs. Sutherland as a member of the sewing circle and as a voluntary helper of the house committee. Mrs. Sutherland, in response, mentioned the pleasure her membership had given her and wished the league all success in its undertakings. Yellow flowers and autumn leaves decorated the tea tables and the guest of honour was presented with a souvenir bouquet of violets. Ihe conveners wore Mesdames Filling, Magllire. Brodie, Misses Browne, Fouhy I (2)7Fttzpatnck and H. Wright. Among those present were: Mesdames McCoy, T.undon, Dovey, Gutheridge, Hanson, H. S. Mrs. Brian Hewitt, of Erin Street, Remuera, entertained a number of young guest* last evening in honour of her sons, Michael and Patrick. The rooms were arranged in autumn shades of chrysanthemums, large crystal bowls of violets decorating the supper table. The prizewinners for the progressive games played were Zoe Rhind J. Cooper. The balance-sheet and annual report showed the club's position as satisfactory from both the financial and social view point. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs. Hamilton; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames Cuckscy, Clarkson, Shields, and Miss Shroff; secretary, Mre. Dukes; treasurer, Mrs. Wilson; match committee, Mesdames Clarkson, Perry, Bird, Misses Keatley and Shroff; general committee, Mesdames Sykes, Sands, Baker and Miss Louden; card committee, Mesdames Perry, Dukes and Miss Shroff; delegates to Auckland Association, Mesdames Clavkson and Dukes; green committee, Mesdames Buckle, Hamilton and Laurie. Mrs. Hamilton wajs, during afternoon tea, presented by' Mrs. Cucksey, on behalf of the club, with a handsome vase, and Mrs. Sykes received a leather bag, in appreciation of work done in connection with the club. Mrs. Pony, one of Carlton's oldest members, who 'has worked for the club as secretary for 12 yeare, was made a life member. ■» • • • A social evenjng, arranged by the lady associates of the Bclmont Presbyterian Church, was held in the church hall on Tuesday evening. A competition, which created a great deal of interest, was arranged by Mrs. Stuart Boyd, consisting of a number of humorous winter colour eketches, illustrating well-known proverbs. The first prize fell to Miss Spooncr, a number tied for second place, Mrs. Walker, Miss McDonald, Mre. Kay, Mrs. Goddard, the Rev. Lawson Marsh, and Mr. McEldowney. The play "Between the Soup and the Savoury" was well presented by members of the Girls' Dramatic Club. Songs, "My Airi Folk" and "Absent" were contributed by Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Cambridge, the accompanists being Miss Collott and Miss Grace Cambridge. Short addresses were given by the Rev. R, Walker and tho Rev. Lawson Marsh. Votes of thanks, proposed by Mr. McEldowney, were accorded to Mrs. Stuart Boyd for arranging tho competition, and for providing the prizes, to the Girls' Dramatic Club, and the soloists; also the lady associates for providing supper. A bridge drive waft held yesterday afternoon at the Seamen's Institute by the Harbour Lights Guild. The proceeds are to assist in furnishing the new institute that is being built for the Flying Mission to Seamen. Mre. Preston Chambers, the president, who was in a black ensemble and small hat, received the guwsts, and was assisted by the honorary secretary, Mies Marie Marsack. The prizewinners were: Mesdnmos E.
