AUSTRALIA'S FINANCE. Every Prospect of Achieving Premiers' Objective. NEW TARIFF SCHEDULE. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) CANBERRA, May 24. The Assistant Federal Treasurer, Mr. S. M. Bruce, to-day reviewed the finances of the Commonwealth when the Supply Bill was before the House of Representatives. Mr. Bruce said there was every prospect that the Government would end the year well within the Premiers' plan. He anticipated that the deficit would not exceed £1,500,000 after allowing for the relief provided by the war debts moratorium. A new tariff schedule was introduced in the House. It increases the excise duty 011 petrol distilled in Australia by lid a gallon, which is estimated to produce £100,000 a year. A slight increase in the imposts on matches, cigarettes and wireless valves was also announced.

NEW FEDERAL LEGISLATION. (Received 11 a.m.) CANBERRA, this day. The House of Representatives passed a bill to amend tlie Crimes Act in order to provide power to deal with unlawful associations, and a bill to amend the Immigration Act regarding the deportation of aliens.
