PILOT COLOUR BLIND.

LICENSE REFUSED AT HOME,

LONDON, May 12,

Douglas Shepherd, the Australian, whose intended attempt to make a record flight to Australia was frustrated by the refusal of the authorities to grant him a certificate, will return by boat. "Mr. Shepherd hasn't a dog's chance of flying out of England," Squad-ron-Leader Marsden, air attache at Australia House, told "The Sun."

"When he sought to renew his pilot's certificate in April, the medical tests disclosed colour blindness, and it was refused. He can fly locally, but not over foreign countries." He had intended to buy the late Commander Glen Kidston's Lockhead Vega machine.

Shepherd was taught to fly by the de Havilland Aircraft Co. last year, at Mascot, and later purchased the Puss Moth in which Captain Matthews flew to Australia. Early this year he went to England and unsuccessfully applied for a "B" license.
