FLUCTUATIONS IN SHARES

BUSINESS IS FAIR. COMMERCIAL BANKS EASIER. Business on the local Stock Exchange was rather better yesterday afternoon, and a. fair volume of business was put through before brokers closed for the day. In the case of most sales late values were maintained, but Commercial Banks provided an exception with a sale ud lower, at This morning opened quietly, the only transaction recorded at the 10 o'clock call being one made late yesterday. There were still buyers of Commercials at 13/0. with sellers at 14/. Holders of New South Wales Banks raised their reserves to £26 5/, but there were no buyers. New Zealand Insurances were firm, with buyers still in at £1 15/3.

New Zealand Loan and Mercantile scrip •was again asked for at £30, bringing a seller at £40. Colonial Sugars wore in request at £38, but. holders still stood out for £40. Kempthorne, Prosser's were again asked for. with buyers at £2 5/9. An inquiry came in for Alexander Mines at 13/6. Government Bonds were virtually unaltered. At the Noon Call.

Further sales of Commercial Bank shares were reported fit the noon call at 13/!). after which buyers did not quote Alexander Mines had a sharp rise from buyers at 13/0 this morning, to 15/ at the noon call, and a seller then quoted 17/6. Okarito shares changed hands at 9/4, and Golden Dawns at 5/11. Business was done in the room in Government 5V2 per cent Loan. 1937 (September), at £08 10/.
