PENDING ELECTIONS

(Received 11.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. There is 110 change in the results of the Victorian general elections. Postal and absentee votes are being awaited. A London cable says the "Daily Telegraph" sUtes that the decisive verdict iii the Victorian elections is the best augury for the Queensland and New South Wales elections. It can hardly be doubted that the lead of Victoria will be followed. There could l>e 110 stronger testimony of the soundness of the situation in Australia than the fact that resounding verdicts were given in the Commonwealth and Victorian elections in favour of a programme of retrenchmeiit of taxation under which all classes were feeling the most serious hardship. Mr. E. J. Hogan, Labour Premier, has cabled his own and his Ministry's resignation from London.
