TRANSPORT BOARD.

BOY WHO WAS INJURED. APPLICATION FOR COMPENSATION. The Auckland Transport Board met this morning, Mr. J. A. C. Allum presiding. A letter was received from a firm of solicitors 011 behalf of the father of a boy who was injured as the result of a tram accident in Queen Street on March 19. It was stated that the boy had his foot crushed and four toes amputated. The father was a returned soldier, at present 011 relief work. The boy had been earning 8/ a week, and the loss of that sum was hard on the parents. A request was made for the payment of compensation. The manager (Mr. A. E. Ford) reported that the evidence showed that no liability attached to the board. The chairman (Mr. J. A. C. Allum) said the board was in no way responsible.

Mr. T. Bloodworth said it was an unfortunate case, and he suggested a compassionate allowance to cover hospital expenses. Mr. F. N. Bartram supported the pro-

posal. The chairman said it was only one of the many cases they would like to help, but could not.

The letter was referred to the board in committee, with power to act.
