(United V. A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright)

LONDON, May 2.

Sensational reports are published to the effect that Poland is plotting to seize Danzig, the free port controlled by the League of Nations.

The Geneva correspondent of the "Daily Express" says Poland had completed her plans for tho seizure of Danzig and, but for the • Icvcnth-hour intervention of France, the Polish fleet would already have sailed for Danzig Harbour, and thus brought about direct conflict bctvi'cen Germany and Poland.

The Danzig correspondent of the "Daily Herald" confirms the news of preparations for the seizure. He says eight warships were ready in Dgyina Harbour, eight mile? distant'. However, the raid was called off, owing to urgent warnings from Geneva.

The correspondent expresses the opinion that if a conflict between Germany and Poland arises, Russia on one side and France on the other would not be able to hold aloof.

By Article 102 of the Treaty of Versailles the principal allied and associated Powers undertook to establish Danzig with the surrounding territory as a Free City, to be placed under the protection of the League of Nations. This freedom was proclaimed on November 9, 1020. Accounting to the treaty Danzig and Poland form a single Customs territory. Since January 1, 1922, the Polish-German Customs frontier extends to the sea. which means that Danzig is a unit in the Polish Customs administration. The area of the Free City of Danzig is about 754 square miles and the population is about 500,000.
