CHINESE IN SAMOA.

Too long have New Zealanders had to read half-truths about Samoa. Most people who have resided there and know the true conditions are so tired of the subject that they decline to express their views through the Press. No doubt our friend "Nota Bene" thought his interesting article on the Chinese in Samoa would pass without comment. as usual. He paints a most pathetic picture of the low-class Chinese coolies ruining the fine Polynesian race by inter-marriage. The New Zealander who has never visited Samoa is left with the impression that the Chinese are the sole offenders. If it were not so tragic one might also think it laughable, In Samoa there are thousands of half-castes. Germans, Englishmen, Australians, New Zealanders, Frenchmen, Danes and other white men have come in the past, and now their families help to make up the population of Samoa.- The continued pureness of the Samoan race was doomed with the coming of the white man. It is our responsibility, and as white people we must bear it. We must face all the facts and not blame a few Chinese for this inevitable but sad state of affairs. TUSALAVA.
