PRAISE FOR ENGLAND.

STEADY IMPROVEMENT.

MORE WORKERS IN EMPLOYMENT.

"IT WAS A TERRIBLE FIGHT*

High praise of England for the manner in which she was fighting her way back to prosperity was voiced by Colonel C. W. Clark, an English business man, who arrived at Auckland from Sydney by the Zealandia this morning. Colonel Clark is on a world trip, and will spend a two weeks' holiday in the North Island. "England is pulling round in an extraordinary way," said Colonel Clark. "There is no doubt about that." The fight to get back to happier and more prosperous times, said the colonel, had been a terrible one. "So hard has it been that it has nearly ruined ua all, but now conditions are improving steadily." The improvement, he said, dated from, the time the new Government came into power. Right from that date the unemployment figures had been on tlio decrease, and more men were being placed in employment every day. The improvement in conditions had brought with it an under-current of optimism, and the general feeling of the people now was very different from what it had been a few years ago. "Personally, I lmvo every confidenca that the Old Country will make a complete recovery,'' declared Colonel Clark. In the course of his tour Colonel Clark has already visited India and Australia. From New Zealand lie will go on to China and Japan before returning to England.
