KING PEG- FOR MAETON. LEITRIM SCHOOLS.WELL. The course proper, 24ft out from the. rails, was available at Te Awamutu yesterday morning for fast work, but there was very little done, most of the horses being restricted to pace work on the plough. King Peg, who, has been attending the tracks here since the Te Kuiti meeting, was allotted three furlongs on the course proper, placing the distance behind in 37 l-ss. This was a mice effort. F. Nesdale leaves with him for Marton next week. Taurua was moving with ease while running a similar distance in 40 3-ss. Shamgar was easing up over the final furlong of half a mile to take 53 4-ss. Several yearlings were given exercise on the course proper, among them being the Diacquenod—-Finelli filly, the • Gay Shield—Boyne mare filly, the High ArtBaby Doll colt aind the Speardance— Mussy gelding. All carry a bright appearance and are very tractable. . Leitrim gave a pleasing display over four fences on the hurdle track in company with Te Homai. With the exception of the last fence he jumped perfectly. Te Homai ran off twice. Others to do pace work were Marechal, Awarere, Trishna, Kanapa, Chateau, Sea Rider, Emancipation, Sir Musk, Soloist and Protomint. GREAT NORTHERN MEETING. NOMINATIONS ON FRIDAY. A sale of thoroughbreds was held at the Elderslie Stud to-day in order to make room for the large number of visiting mares that are being sent to this stud. Bidding was not very animated; in fact, the stallions Weathervane and Tea Tray were passed, no bid being made for them. The brood mare Bahama Girl, by Nassau, brought 32%g5, which was the highest price offered for any of the brood mares brought forward. A yearling, by Weathervane—Taiamai, made 57V&gs, and a filly by Valkyrian—Lisp, 30gs. Both were bought by Oamaru residents.
