MOUNT COOK ASCENT.

CLIMBERS FIND NEW ROUTE. START FROM FRANZ JOSEF. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRTSTCHURCH, Thursday. A party which comprised Mr. H. Amos, of Wellington, and Guides Jack Pope and Jack Cox, of the Franz Josef Glacier, made the ascent of Mount Cook on Easter Sunday, by the Linda route.

The climbers crossed over the divide by Graham's Saddle to the Ball Hut on Friday, and went on to the Haast 071 Saturday. The weather conditions were perfect on Sunday, and a great view was obtained from Mount Cook, the ocean being seen on both sides of the island.

It was the first occasion on which a party had been successful starting out from the Franz Josef side. The guides, Messrs. Pope and Cox, were two of the three guides who, on March 4, made the first ascent of Mount Tasnian from the Westland side.
