RED AIMS.

QUEST OF SPAIN.

INSIDIOUS EFFORTS.

Two Reasons Why Communism Will Fail. HSH IN TROUBLED WATERS. (" Times " Cables.) (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 25. The Madrid correspondent of "The Times," says that Russian agents and Communists are seeking to make Spain and Portugal into Red units. There is no great Communist party in cither country, nevertheless the Socialist, syndicalist, anarchist and Communist workmen's groups all agree to fish in the troubled water*, Russian representatives supplying the bait and the tools including money, arms and bundles of propaganda. Bookshops are crowded with translations of Russian social doctrines. A Communist congress, held at Seville, where the famous Holy Week ceremonies were suppressed, was notable for the violence of language amongst speakers, including several Deputies, who declared that the recent revolution was farcical, resulting in a more bloody oppression than Alfonso's, and calling on the peasants and factory hands to unit-j in a new and redder rebellion. There are two reasons why Communism will fail in Spain. Firstly, the Spaniards' common sense, and, secondly, the strong army of heavily reinforced police equipped and specially trained for the shock. It is even more doubtful ir tne milder Portuguese will be accessible to Communist doctrines. The only Holy Week procession at Seville occurred on Ciood Friday when images of Christ and the Virgin were acclaimed by thousands of Catholics, but on approaching the Cathedral syndicalists stoned Christ and fired shots at the Virgin. Indignant devotees nearly lynched the culprits, whom the police rescued.
