BASTION POINT.

RECLAMATION AND PIER. PROPOSAL BEFORE CITY COUNCIL. Improvements at Bastion Point on the Tamaki Drive were mentioned at last night's meeting of the City Council, when the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, reported that a deputation representing the Tamaki Ratepayers' Association had waited upon him and submitted a plan of a proposed extension to the Bastion Point by filling the scheme, including the erection of a pier at the end of the reclamation. It was suggested that the necessary spoil could be obtained by cutting back the cliff forming part of the Defenco Department's reserve opposite the point. The deputation had suggested thai; the council's engineering department should prepare a specification and estimate of cost. He had promised to bring the matter before the council, and had pointed out that neither the reserve nor Bastion Point was vested in the council, that the site of the proposed reclamation was outside the city boundary, and that a considerable proportion of the cost would bo for materials, which would not make ifc a desirable work to undertake under No. 5 scheme. On the recommendation of the Mayor I the proposal was referred to the works I and parks committee for report.
