BAY OF PLENTY FISHING.
GROUNDS BEING DEPLETED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WHAKATANE, Thursday. Mr. Hefford, Chief Inspector of Fisheries, who was in Whakatane yesterday in response to the Chamber of Commerce's complaint of the deterioration of fishing owing to the operations of trawlers, met a deputation of chamber members and local fishermen. He said he was satisfied the grounds were being depleted and would do his best to have the trawlers excluded from the three-mile limit. Mr. Hefford also met the members of the Whakatane Rod and Gun Club, and was shown a fine quinnat salmon caught in the Rangitaiki River some time ago.
