TAME RHINOS.

FAMILY BECOME PETS

NAIROBI (Kenya Colony), Feb. 26,

. Kenya has a family of tame rhinoceroses. At least some settlers think they are tame, though bo far there is no definite assurance on the point. At any rate, in the Nyeri district, on the slopes of Mount Kenya, a family of five—mother, father and three children— disport themselves in the forest glades just at a spot that is a favourite one for picnics. The local hotels organise picnic teas to see the rhinos on the basis of no rhino seen no "rhino" paid.

Recently the Governor's wife went to see them and watched them disporting themselves for an hour beside the stream. Fortunately the bull has a poor horn, and is therefore regarded as relatively harmless. But the settlers are afraid that some head hunter seeking a trophy, will be tempted to pause a family bereavement among the placid animals, therefore the settlerc are suggesting that the whole family should be protected.
