UNREGISTERED REVOLVER.
STOLEN FROM HOUSE. COMMENT IN SUPREME COURT. Colin Levings, who had pleaded guilty to breaking and entering a dwelling house and theft at Ruawai, had nothing to say when brought before Mr. Justice Reed at the Supremo Court this morning for sentence.
His Honor said that lie understood Levings had been out of New Zealand for three years, and that until he committed the offence to which he pleaded guilty he had borne a good character. "If you had only stolen money I might have taken a lenient view," said his Honor, "but you stole a revolver and cartridges. I don't like that.' I must give you a term of imprisonment."
Levings was sentenced to 12 months* reformative detention at Waikeria, and ordered to pay costs fl 18/3, or be detained for a further three months.
After sentence had been passed, the Crown Prosecutor mentioned that an unregistered revolver and some cartridges stolen by the prisoner had been seized by the police. Mr. Justice Reed remarked with a smile: "It's pretty hard to have your place broken into and it be discovered you have an unregistered revolver."
