R. 1 urdie, is not-re-latcd to Charlie Purdy, who represented New Zealand as a boxer at the OJympi; Games in Paris in 1024. 800 1 urdie first appeared in the ring as an amateuv 3t the Auckland Military Sports Association tournament in 1927. lie was then a fly. weight, and was defeated by 1 earcey. The next season lie made several appearances, and then in 1929 he won the South Auckland, Auckland and New Zealand bantam titles incidentally also winning the Bran, ton Cup as most scientific; boxer at the South Auckland tourney. In 1930 he won the same three titles in the leather-weight class, collected that year also the Brantoj y Cup (South Auckland), the Craig. Cup $ (Auckland), and the Jamicson Belt-ftew || Zealand), as most scientific boxer at the ■ three tournaments Last year ho ms H runner-up for the Auckland feather- g weight championship, but won the .New g§ Zealand title.
