BIG CLASH IMMINENT.
Diplomatic Pressure Being Exerted on Japan by World Powers. BRITAIN INVOKES LEAGUE OF NATIONS. PEACE TERMS SENT TO CHINA AND JAPAN. Efforts to prevent an open state of war between China and Japan have been definitely taken through diplomatic and League of Nations channels, mainly through the instrumentality of Britain and America. The latter two Powers have preferred their good offices as mediators, submitting terms upon which peace negotiations could be inaugurated. Meantime, the truce arranged at Shanghai by Consular intervention is stated to be definitely at an end and hostilities on a large scale in the district of Chapei are reported to be momentarily expected.
