WIDOW'S LARGE CLAIM.
TAXI-DRIVER SUED FOR £2000. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Damages amounting to £2000, arising out of a collision between a bicycle and a. taxi-cab, were claimed in an action which was commenced in the Supreme Court to-day before the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, and a jury. A cyclist, James Alexander Cavell, a metal worker, was killed, and his widow, Emmie Cavell, claimed damages from Timothy Sulivan, taxi proprietor. The accident occurred at the intersection of Buckle Street and Taranaki Street. The widow alleged negligence on the part of the taxi-driver. The defence was that the cyclist was negligent, had no brakes, and failed to keep a look-out. The hearing was adjourned until tomorrow.
