MIDNIGHT MISHAP.

CAR RUNS OVER BANK.

TOTING WOMAN INJURE!*.

TWO MEN ESCAPE LIGHTLY.

A seven-seater motor car with three occupants, awned "by Mr. S. J. Harbutt, of 47, Selwyn Road, Epsom, and driven by Mr. W. Harbutt, fell over a 15-foot bank at the end of Hastings Road, Kemuera, shortly after midnight. The car somersaulted three or four times, and came to rest at a considerable distance from the road. One occupant, a young woman, Miss C. Eraser, of 18, Momona Road, Green Lane, had one leg fractured, and she was taken to the Auckland Hospital by the St. John Ambulance. The other two in the car, Messrs. W. Harbutt and B. Canahan, escaped with minor ' abrasions. The driver of the car was under the impression that he was going towards Green Lane, and was not aware that Hastings Road has no exit, but leads into the grass and gorse land known as the Waiatarua Estate. The car, which was damaged to the extent of about £100, crashed through barbed wire and gorse immediately on leaving the road, and this fact gave the driver little chance of seeing the drop ahead. The St. John Ambulance had considerable difficulty in bringing the injured woman up to the road owing to the broken nature of the ground, and were obliged to employ a collapsible stretcher.
