Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald is still consulting Ministers and others regarding the situation at Shanghai. A bad impression was created by a midnight Press message that a Japanese cruiser had bombarded the Hsiakwan area of Nanking, that the Chinese artillery were replying and that confusion reigns in the city, which is plunged in darkness. Dr. Yen has delivered a Note to the Secretary-General of the League of Nations denying the Press reports that the Chinese Government is preparing to declare war on Japan.
