Baton Charge Ends Orgy of Destruction. SITUATION IN NORTH-WEST. (Received 11.30 a.m.) CALCUTTA, February 1. Mors disturbances bave occurred in Bombay, where an angry mob attacked the police with bottles and stones. They held up trams, removed street signs and smashed lamps. They were finally dispersed by a baton charge, 40 being injured. Many persons were arrested. A crowd of hooligans later wrecked the- police shelter. Armed police are now patrolling the streets. The situation improved in Kashmir after the State troops at many centres had fired on the crowds who attacked them. Several people were killed and wounded. Advices from Peshawar state that the bombing operations against the insurgent tribal villagers in the Dir district have been postponed as the chiefs have expressed their willingness to comply with the British demands. The tribes have been given till Thursday to provide hostages and surrender stolen arms.
