TOMATOES VERY CHEAP. RIPE BANANAS PLENTIFUL. BON CHRETIEN PEAKS LOWER. The glut of -tomatoes still continues, although some extra choice firm shipping lines are realising higher values. The prices paid for Bon Chretien pears are also very low. Good supplies arc available, but are meeting with little demand. Neither cooking nor dessert apples are in demand, although Gravenstein und Albany Beauty varieties are now well coloured and in good condition. A ready sale is found for peaches at ruling rates, but plums and nectarines were cheaper to-day, while bananas were fetching slightly higher prices than they did last week. A fall in the price of nectarines is recorded, fairly heavy supplies having come on the market within the past few days. Latest quotations are:—Strawberries: Od to 1/ per chip. Tomatoes: 1/ to 2/ case. Plums: Greengages, 5/0 to 0/6; Purple Kings, 4/ to 5/0; Satsuma, 3/ to 4/6; Burbanks, 1/9 to 4/; others, 2/ to 4/. Lemons: 6/ to 10/G; Raspberries, 4/ to ,5/ tin. Peaches: Wiggins and Paragon, 3/9 to 4/9 case; in crates of 3 trays, 7/ to 9/. Grapes: Hothouse, 8d to 1/ lb. Apricots: Otago, 4/0 to 6/6 case. Nectarines: 3/ to 5/ case. Cape gooseberries: 4d to 5d lb. Apples: Cookers, 2/9 to 3/6 case; Astrakhan, 2/6 to 3/6; Gravenstein, 3/ to 4/; Albany Beauty, 3/6 to 5/; Windfalls and small, 2/ to 2/6; Gravenstein (highly coloured), 5/ to 6/. Pears: Bon Chretien, 4/ to 5/6. No. 1, 15/ to 17/0; seconds and medium, 6/6 to 15/. Red Warren Pumpkins. The new season's crop of onions and kumaras is now coming in plentifully. Red Warren pumpkins are also available, and are meeting with a fair demand. Latest quotations are: —Potatoes, new, 2/0 to 3/9 bag; onions, heavy supplies, 2/6 to 3/ bag; kumaras, Island 13/ to 14/ cwt, new season's local 2d to 2Msd lb; cabbage, 2/ to 5/ sack; cauliflower, 3/ to 6/ sack; swedes, 1/ to 1/0 bag; pumpkins, 4/6 to 7/ cwt; green peas, 3/ to 5/ bag; beans, 1/6 to 4/0 bag; lettuce, 1/0 to 3/6 case; cucumbers, 2d to 6d dozen; vegetable marrows, 1/ to 1/0 dozen; cabbage, loose, 1/0 to 3/ dozen; cauliflower, loose, 2/ to 7/ dozen; celery, Od to 1/9 bundle; rhubarb, 1/ to 2/ dozen; spinach, Od to 1/ dozen; pumpkins, loose, 3d to 2] each; radish, 6d to 1/ dozen; spring onions, 4d to 9d bundle; carrots, parsnips, beet and turnips, Od to 1/3 dozen. Eggs Up Again. Owing to supplies being very short, and tho demand keen, eggs were increased to-day by 2d a dozen, and now sell at:— Special, l/5Mt per dozen; A grade, 1/4 Ms; B grade, l/3Vi; for both duck and hen eggs. Farmers' butter is fetching from 8d to lOd per lb. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium, and the demand was fair. The prices paid remain level. Selling rates were as follow:— Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime, 2/6 to 5/ oach; not prime, 1/0 upwards; light breeds, prime, 1/6 to 2/6; not prime, 1/ upwards. Pat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 1/0 to 2/3; light breeds, 1/ to 1/0. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 1/0 to 2/3; light breeds, 9d to 1/3. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best, 4/ to 6/; smaller, 1/6 upwards; light breeds, best, 4/ to 6,/; smaller, 1/6 upwards. Drakes: Young, prime. 1/0 to 2/6; smaller, 1/ upwards. Ducks: Young, 2/ to 3/; old, 1/ to 3/6. Drakes: old, 1/ to 1/0.
