FLUCTUATIONS IN SHARES. BUSINESS STILL QUIET. Business on the local Stock Exchange has been very quiet over the last 24 hours, sales having been confined chiefly to Government and local body stocks. At this morning's call bidding was rather dull. In the banking section buyers for New Zealand Nationals advanced their offers 1/ to £3 13/0. Commercials eased a fraction, with sellers at 14/11, and best buyers stopping at 14/8. New Zealands were asked for at £2 4/6. Gas Company shares were quoted ex div., with buyers at £1 1/9. Colonial Sugars cased in sympathy with the Australian market, and there were sellers at £39. Bycrofts were wanted at £1 7/, and for Farmers' Auctioneering B pref. shares, ex div., 11/6 was available. The Noon Call. At the noon call a sale of Bank of New South Wales at £26 5/ confirmed the easier tone regarding this scrip that has been evident during the past fortnight. Commercials were offered Id lower at 14/10, and Unions were available at the last sale price, namely, £7 10/. Wilsons Cements were easier, being on offer at £1 13/. YESTERDAY'S TRANSACTIONS. SYDNEY, February 1. An atmosphere of caution prevailed on the Sydney Stock Exchange to-day owing to the uncertain financial and political outlook. Bonds, however, were fairly strong. Eight issues of 4 per cents showed advances of from 2/6 to 7/6. Sales were recorded as follows:—1938 issue, £94 7/6; 1944, £93 10/; 1947, £93 17/6; 1950, £94 12/6; 1953, £93; 1959. £9 17/6; 1961, £93 17/6; 1957, £93 8/9. Bank scrip was steady. Bank of New South Wales sold at £30, and National Bank at £5, paid up £5 15/. Colonial Sugars went higher with buyers at £42, and sellers at £45, but no business was done. Millaquin Sugar were easier with a sale at 25/.
