LONG-DISTANCE SWIM.
A member of the Milford Surf LifeSaving Club, R. Double, swam from Rangitoto to Milford Beach on Sunday. Four other members of the club, Messrs. L. Hinton, O. D. Mills, R. Sharp and O. Olsen, made the attempt, but were not successful, owing to the coldness of the water. The distance was 2J miles, and Double took two hours ten minutes to complete the journey. Sharp got within 400 yds of the shore" at Black Rock, but, encountering an extremely cold current, was forced to give up owing to cramp. Double landed at the foot of Salt-burn Road.
